Privacy policy
SayBand is an independent IELTS Speaking practice tool. This page explains what we collect when you use sayband.vercel.app, why, and how to get it deleted. Questions: hello@sayband.com.
What we collect
- Account. Your email address and a password, which is stored only as a salted hash. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile picture link and Google account ID. We never see your Google password.
- Age confirmation. That you confirmed you are 13 or older.
- Your answers. The optional questions after sign-up: how you heard about us, why you need IELTS, test type and date, target band, past attempts, what you find hard, how you prepare and what you spend. Every question can be skipped.
- Country. A two-letter country code, worked out from your connection when you finish the questions. We do not store the IP address it comes from.
- Who sent you. If you arrived through a creator's or a friend's link, the code from that link. You get your own invite code too.
- Sign-in sessions. While you are logged in, the session record keeps the IP address and browser name it was created from, to keep your account secure.
We do not record your voice yet. Before Speaking marking opens, we will update this page to explain how recordings are handled.
Why we use it
- To run your account and show your place in line and your plan.
- To send you one email when your mock opens. You agreed to this when you signed up.
- To credit the person who invited you.
- To decide what to build and what to charge, from answers taken together, not one person at a time.
We do not sell your data, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
Cookies
- Sign-in cookie, so you stay logged in. It is removed when you log out or it expires.
- sayband_ref, for 30 days: the code from the link that brought you, so it can be credited when you sign up.
- sayband_age_ok, for one hour: that you ticked the 13+ box, so sign-up with Google can record it.
There are no analytics or advertising cookies.
Who processes it
- Vercel hosts the site.
- Neon runs our database, in the United States.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
They process data on our behalf and only to provide their service. Your data is stored in the United States.
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Sign-in sessions expire on their own. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile and answers with it.
Your choices
You can see and change your answers at any time with Change my answers on your dashboard. To get a copy of your data, correct it, or delete your account, email hello@sayband.com from the address you signed up with. We reply within 30 days.
Children
SayBand is for people aged 13 and up. If you tell us you are under 13, we sign you out. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you already gave us, we will tell you by email first.
